A Morning Walk at Mission Beach

I’m finishing off my series of posts about Mission Beach with this one.  We’ve shared about the Mission Beach Sunset Sail and the Mission Beach Wedding, well now this is a Mission Beach Morning Walk!

Those of you who have kids or have had them, will most likely agree that going on holidays with kids is not always a walk in the park!  One of the things that always happens when we go away with our kiddos is that they don’t sleep well.  Particularly when we have a baby in the mix!  It always seems to take a few nights for them to settle in to their new beds and surroundings before they go back to sleeping right through the night and not waking up at the crack of dawn in excitement at being somewhere different!

Well – we had kind of forgotten all this as our older three were pretty much past this stage or had become great travellers after our trip around Oz last year!  Enter our now five month old baby Kipp and we were given the ‘parents with baby on holiday’ rude reminder!  The first night away at Mission Beach I lost track of how many times Kipp woke during the night – I ended up dragging a chair into our bedroom from the lounge room and spending most of the few hours after 3am sitting up holding him in the chair!   Aaaaaargh!  The other kids all woke by 6am and they were quite happy to lie in their beds and enjoy the novelty of being able to watch cartoons on their very own TV in their bedroom!  However, they were not impressed with the baby brother that their mum had set up with a pillow and blankets in there with them who kept crying and making noise so loud that they couldn’t hear the TV!

In the end I threw my hands in the air, gave up the idea of snatching even just a few more minutes sleep napping on the couch and decided that it was best to have one parent not sleep deprived! So I pulled all of the kids sort of out of their Pyjama’s, threw a banana and an apple at each of them and we headed off down to the beach for a walk and left Matt to get a little sleep in the quiet of an empty apartment!

It was the best thing we could have done!  Kipp stopped crying instantly when we got outside, the older three ran excitedly down to the beach and I perked up too as it was a spectacular view that greeted us!

We were staying opposite Wongaling Beach and this is the tale of our morning walk that turned one cranky, very tired mamma into a happy one, grateful for the beautiful area we are able to holiday in and even grateful for the ratbag kids I got to share the walk with!  Here’s what we saw, all in just a few hours walk along the beach!

Our first discovery was this little iron table and chairs!

Not a bad spot for a seat!

Look what I found Mum!!

Look what I found Mum!!

We called her 'Katie' Coconut - isn't she clever?? We left her there for other's to enjoy as we had!

Next we found this swing with a view – a hit with the kids!

Just when were thinking the morning couldn’t get any better – look what we found!

As we were about to head for home we found these chairs in perfect time for a feed for Kipp and the boys to convince mum that a swim before breakfast was in order.  How could I refuse really when the ocean looked like this?

So although kids don’t sleep much on holidays, the beauty that can be found in the early mornings out and about with them can mostly make up for it!  What do you reckon?  Do your kids do this on holidays too?

Sigh.  And that’s the end of our Mission Beach posts!  Hope you liked them!

What a morning view!

  3. The kids seem to be enjoying their time at the beach. The morning walk, the sand, the iron table and chair, everything fall into place I guess. Now I want to go to the beach after looking at such photos.

    • Are We There Yet?

Thanks for stopping by Samantha! I would love a trip back to the beach soon too!
