A Mission Beach Wedding

DSC_0092

I LOVE weddings soooooo much!  I love the gathering of family and friends to celebrate, the chance to visit somewhere beautiful and new, dress up and kick up your heels for the day – it doesn’t get much better in my book!  As you know – at the end of September we headed to Mission Beach for my friend Mel’s wedding.  You’ve already read about where we stayed and the Hen’s Night Sunset Sail, so now time for a post about the awesome wedding which Mel has kindly let me share some of the details of with you!  Let’s start with a few beautiful photos of the day …………………………………DSC_0101 DSC_0094 DSC_0098 DSC_0102 DSC_0105

Mel and Max live in Mission Beach so they decided to stay local for their big day and choose Castaways Resort as their wedding venue. It was truly spectacular!  The beautiful weather, the palm trees, the blue sky, sparkling blue ocean in the background – a definite recipe for stunning wedding photos and absolutely set the tone for a lovely relaxed wedding!  We had a ball!  Mel and I have been friends for nearly twenty years – having met in primary school.  She is the most loyal, generous, hard working and kind person I know and has been so good to me, and especially the Fealy kiddos over the years, so this was a pretty special wedding for us!!  Also at Mel’s wedding were some of our closest friends from our school days and it was so great catching up!  Our table was definitely the ‘ratbag’ table at the reception!

The wedding ceremony was held on the lawns of the Castaway Resort with the Coral Sea and Dunk Island as the backdrop.  I loved the simple white chairs, floating flags and flower petal decorations – the palm trees and gentle breeze off the ocean ensured we all stayed cool despite the quite warm sunny day!

These are a couple of shots that Mel sent me which her professional photographer took on the day – I love Lexi’s expression in the background of this first photo – totally wrapt with watching the beautiful bride (who looked like a ‘princess like Elsa from Frozen’ according to Lex!) – weddings are pretty much our chance for a fairy tale moment and Mel and Mission Beach definitely delivered!MML (145 of 314)MML (148 of 314)

After the ceremony we all headed over to the Bibesia Cocktail Bar at the resort for a drink and watched the kids run amuck on the lovely green lawn in front of the bar.  We felt like we were on a tropical island a million miles from everything!!  It was a pretty nice way to watch the sun start to go down!

We even snapped off a family photo and one of ‘the girls’ using the tropical background – they are keepers for the photo album for sure!DSC_0208 DSC_0213

Before long it was time to make the short stroll across the lawn to the reception venue and time to PARTY!!!  As the ever kind and organised person she is, Mel had organised a beautiful sunset picnic dinner for the kids which they loved and ensure there was no whining about being hungry!!  We had booked a babysitter for our kids back at our apartment for the night, so after their picnic Matt drove them home and we had an almost child free night (Kipp stayed & proved to be quite the party baby!).  Here’s the reception photos …….

It was a fun night!  I may have had a little bit of a sore head the next day but it was totally worth it and as most of our family and friends are married off now I will have plenty of time to recover before the next wedding!

The next morning we headed in for recovery coffee and breakfast at Castaways Resort restaurant and it was the perfect way to finish off the wedding weekend!  The food was delicious and quite reasonably priced and the kids had a ball swimming in the beautiful oceanfront resort pool which is allowed when eating at the Castaways Restuarant!  There are rooms which open directly out on to the pool – the kids have put in a request that we stay there one day – we’re adding it to the bucket list!

If you are planning a tropical wedding – I cannot recommend Mission Beach and Castaways Resort highly enough!  We had the BEST weekend and honestly felt like we were a million miles away on a tropical island somewhere!  I’ve told Matt that we need to get married again – renew our vows or something, because after the weekend here I am dying to get married all over again!

Have you had a dream wedding or been to a fantastic one?  I’d love to hear about where it was and why it was so good in the comments below!!

In the meantime, add a luxury weekend at Mission Beach, staying at Castaways Resort to your bucket list!!

Thanks for letting me share this special post about your beautiful day Max and Mel!  May your future together be filled with many happy memories and lots of love and laugher xoxoxoxoxoxo

Looks gorgeous. How did you find the reception? ie food, organisation etc? We are considering Castaways as a potential venue for our wedding next year :))

    • Are We There Yet?

Hi Rachael! Congratulations on the upcoming wedding – sooooo exciting! The food at Castaways was delicious but maybe just a little on the small serving side for my big appetite husband! The food was beautifully presented and the staff all seemed great! I didn’t have much to do with the organisation but I would be happy to put your in touch with my friend Mel if you wanted more information? Good luck with the preparations!

  5. Beautiful wedding and gorgeous photos Jessica x
