The Hitlist

IMG_5151

My legs groan every time I try to stand up, I can barely brush my hair as my arms are too sore to lift above my head and don’t say anything funny because it hurts my stomach muscles to laugh!  You see, I’ve just started going to the gym and at the moment it is torture.  I have never been so unfit and heavy in my life!  I love all the bad things; coke, chocolate, cake – the list goes on.  Since having kids and becoming time poor, my health and exercise routines have dropped a long way down on the priority list.

But, with a very good friend’s wedding coming up in a few months and a decision made that I need to set a better example for the kids, as well as seeing both my sisters last month looking so fit and gorgeous, I have recently committed to make some changes – I don’t want to be the porky one in the family anymore!

I’ve been inspired by my sister Beth who encouraged me to write this ‘hitlist’ last month to help me get out of my mid-year, post baby slump and as I am a big fan of lists – I really like this ‘hitlist’ idea!!

Jess’s Hit List! To be completed by 1 July 2014.

1. Do a bike ride with the kids (aim for 45min)
2. Join the Gym in preparation for my 1 July kick off
3. Do a beach walk with my mum and sisters
4. Have a game of squash with Dad
5. Find a new healthy dinner recipe for the family and make it!
6. Do a 1hr canoe paddle at Lawn Hill by myself!
7. Do a family hike (ok – cheating again a little with this one!)
8. Write one magazine article and submit in hope of publication and $$$
9. Find a Yoga DVD or You Tube workout for home for Matt and I to try together at night
10. Play a board/card game with the whole family.

I gave myself an extension until the 31st of July on this list and I am about half way there so I really need to get cracking!  But, even if I don’t get everything done in time, I am really enjoying trying and having some short term goals to keep me focused each month or two!

My sister Beth is a qualified Exercise Physiologist and she has just started her own blog ‘The Exercise Hitlist‘. You can also join the hitlist fun on Facebook here.  As per Beth, “The Exercise Hitlist’ is aimed at anyone who struggles to get started with exercise and for anyone who gets a little too comfortable in their everyday routines”.   It is a fun way to fit exercise in to your life and perhaps get some inspiration from others who are doing the same.  And like my list, it doesn’t have to be all purely exercise – you can add a few ‘mental health’ items in there too!

I should state that this is not a sponsored post, just a bit of good old family nepotism!  But do go and check Beth’s blog out – I am sure you will be motivated to start your own hitlist!  Let me know if you do – we can keep each other accountable!!  Now, I’m off to update my list!

Oh how i miss you and your lists! So pleased you are sharing them with us. I have a cheeky suggestion for number 9 if you are looking for something you and Matt can do together at night. ……is an activity that will keep you warm, fit and bring you even closer to your partner ……..hmm I wonder I wonder what could it be? 🙂

  3. I’m off to write a hitlist and to check out Beth’s blog…
