We’re needing some inspiration at the moment as we move into the real ‘knuckle down’ hard work stage of getting organised for the trip – aka packing, clearing out, packing, $$$ walking out the door getting car & camper finalised, cleaning, more packing – you get the drift – all the yuck stuff!
A friend (thanks Michelle!) suggested that we needed a ‘Vision Board’ to keep us motivated which was a great idea so I’ve decided to post here the Top 10 Places we really want to see on our trip – a ‘Virtual Vision Board’ to refer back to when things get tough over the next few weeks and to look back on at the end of our trip and decide if these really were some of the best places Australia has to offer. Oh, and to give you all something to look forward to hearing about when we finally hit the road!!

You will note that Far North Queensland doesn’t feature anywhere in our ‘Top Ten’ – that is because we think it is such a great place that we are thinking we will settle back there to live at the end of our trip!

How could you leave out Lawn Hill Gorge and Gregory River even if it is in Nth Queensland? I admit I am very biased towards these places. Ngaree

I have to agree on Lawn Hill, it is an amazing spot. A few others I would recommend, the drive from Lawn Hill to Kingfisher camp is a great drive, and Kingfisher camp is a very nice camping spot, Lorella Springs on the Savannah Way, camping spots we loved on the Gibb River Road are El Questro, Home Valley, Mount Elizabeth Station and Windjana Gorge, Karijini NP, Kalbarri NP, Cape Le Grand NP out of Esperance, Kings Canyon, West Macdonnell Ranges, Arkaroola, camping at 7 Mile Flat when in the Vic High Country, Wilsons Promontory.

Esperance looks amazing as does the high victoria one!! proud to be able to say i’ve done great ocean road and loved it! can’t wait wait wait to start seeing and hearing and tracking your journey’s!! so excited for you – living vicariously through you!! btw…. following your lead, have spent / am spending the morning cutting photo’s out of magazines…. vision board in process hahaha cheers xo

Margaret River is a must do. So much to offer for the adults (hic!) and kids. The beaches, wineries, mazes, wineries, caves and more wineries… and this is from someone that isn’t a wine fan!
We stayed at The Big Valley Campsite (Farmstay). That’s a great place to stay, the kids wont want to leave.
PS I like your number 8! Often overlooked and given a bad rap, but a right of passage for a traveller.

Jess and Matt, I am getting motivated just by reading your blog, Thank You. We really would like to share some of your trip with you so your vision is good for us too. Maybe we could hook up on the great Ocean Road or the Victorian high country depending on your timing but I am looking forward to seeing your timeline as you get further into you trip. This will all happen for you as you are planners and doers, it will go better than you dreamed.

Karijini National Park, Pilbara, WA – is what I think is the #1 spot in Australia. You might like to also add – Rottnest Island (day trip from Perth – no campers or cars), Broome, Exmouth (swimming with the whale sharks), and Coral Bay. (Sorry for the Western Australian bias)
Definitely adding those to the list!

Matt & I spent 10days touring Tassie 9 yrs ago in a camper van so we think that we are going to have to miss out on it this trip.
I think the one place you have missed is Albion Park. Wollongong has so much to offer and we can show you lots of it. Jamberoo fun park, Illawarra Fly, Kiama Blowhole, sea cliff bridge, Lake Illawarra then there is Mogo zoo, Taronga Zoo in Sydney, Canberra – where Jack would love Questacon, war Museum, then there is the Blue Mountains and of course Orange. Just a few extra places you will have to visit one day. But I do think the Illawarra is a must and we have the best camp spot in our backyard.

Monkey Mia south of Exmouth in WA, Crystal clear water and you can swim with the dolphins. Stunning beaches, just thinking about them makes me want to see the Indian Ocean again.

Whispering Wall somewhere near Adelaide. Really can’t think where somewhere near the vineyards, Barrossa Valley, go there too. But the kids will love the wall, you stand at one side and whisper and you can hear what is said on the other side. That sounds really dumb but you get the picture : )
